John Cote, BSA, P.Ag., N.Sch.
Co-Founder, Black Fox Farm & Distillery
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan, John returned to the family grain farm, where he and his wife Barb raised their children while cultivating both crops and a deep-rooted passion for innovation in agriculture. Their exceptional work earned them the titles of Saskatchewan and Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers. John’s leadership potential was further recognized when he was selected to participate in a rigorous, two-year international leadership program put on by the Université Laval and the University of Saskatchewan that took him throughout the Americas. His commitment to lifelong learning and global agricultural insight led him to live in Mexico and Chile and spend two summers as an agronomist in Kazakhstan. In 2018, John was awarded a prestigious Nuffield Canada Scholarship, further expanding his global perspective on sustainable agriculture. Today, John and Barb co-own and operate Black Fox Farm and Distillery, an enterprise that blends their agricultural expertise with artisanal distilling. They grow most of the ingredients used in their ultra-premium gin and whisky—spirits that reflect both the land and the care with which they’re crafted. Black Fox has earned international acclaim in a remarkably short time, with their Oaked Gin named World's Best Cask Gin and their whisky recently recognized among the Top 20 Whiskies in the World.
