Biosecurity Refresher & Manual Overview w/ Dr. Ken Fry

Lunch & Learn: Introduction to Bio Security & Practical Applications of Bio Security. Two Free Training Sessions! Don’t Miss Out! by Greenhouse Growers Assoc.

We’re thrilled to announce that the SGGA has once again  secured funding to make needed updates to our Biosecurity training materials for producers in the upcoming season. This is an exciting opportunity for new and experienced producers to review and renew their commitments to on-farm biosecurity.

Presented by Dr. Ken Fry Ph.D. Dr. Ken Fry has been involved in insect pest management research, teaching, and extension for over 30 years. His research is focused on biological control of insect pests and integrated pest management. Ken’s “happy place” is in the Insect Collection where he serves as curator for 100,000 specimens.

The virtual training session for you to take part in is scheduled for Saturday, February 14th, 2026.
Registration is free and you will receive a copy of the materials to review in advance! Participation in this workshop helps us to maintain the funding needed to provide this needed benefit to our members.

What is Biosecurity?
Biosecurity involves measures to prevent the introduction or spread of harmful organisms (viruses, bacteria, pests) and threats (like bioterrorism) to humans, animals, plants, and the environment, encompassing everything from farm animal health and food safety to lab security for pathogens and controlling invasive species, with a goal of protecting health and preventing economic damage. It uses protocols like disinfection, restricted access, quarantine, and genetic monitoring (genomic sequencing) to control disease entry and containment, differing from biosafety (which focuses on accidental lab releases) by also addressing intentional threats
